In 2018 bass player, Jezer Medina, and drummer, Christian Assunto, joined the core nucleus to give Fabricate its aggressive rhythmic sound. Fabricate blends multiple subgenres such as Progressive Metal, Alternative Metal, Nu-Metal, and others with heavy hitting grooves.
We had a chance to chat with Kevin Vorhees of Fabricate as part of our The Refrain Interview series.
Refrain Music Blog: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. You have a new single out now. Tell us about it? What’s it called?
Kevin Vorhees – Thank you for interviewing us. Our single is Cicada. Cicada is a groove heavy violent song.
RMB: What’s the single about?
Kevin Vorhees – Cicada’s meaning can be dinfined in many ways. One being you may not love the person you become. This can be due to tragedy, mental health, or poor choices. A cicada breaks from it’s mold and can be ugly. We feel a person can relate to that.
RMB: Is it part of a larger album?
Kevin Vorhees – Both singles are on our debut album Welcome Home.
RMB: When is that album out?
Kevin Vorhees – The album released on August 27th.
RMB: How many songs on the album?
A total of eight.
RMB: Is this your first album?
Kevin Vorhees – This is our first album. We released a song back in February called “Alice” that ended up doing over 20k streams. Which was completely wild.
RMB: What’s the story on how it was recorded?
Kevin Vorhees – This album was a complete nightmare. We originally had a whole other album recorded in 2019. We ended up showing a friend who was brutally honest with us. He told us to go rewrite it. During the pandemic we went with Manny Rodriguez from Luminera Studios in Orlando Florida. It was a total of 8 months. The only thing that is the same on this album are the titles of the songs. We were writing a song on a Monday and recording it by that Friday. Many long hours and emotion went on this album. We feel the listeners can really hear it. We have to give alot of credit to Manny Rodriguez for his patience and input on our songs. When wefinished the album it was the biggest relief we ever experienced.
RMB: Tell us a little about the band. Who are the members and what do you each play?
Kevin Vorhees – Kevin Vorhees-lead guitarist, Zach Loftin- rhythm guitarist/vocalist, Christian Assunto-drums, Jezer Medina-bassist
RMB: What’s the one thing you are most proud of in your career so far?
Kevin Vorhees – That four friends can sit down write music and have no ego. We see each other as family. Being able to have a great time playing music with people you truly care about is priceless.
RMB: If you had to pitch your music to a potential fan in less than 10 seconds, what would you say?
Kevin Vorhees – If you want rawness, emotion, passion, and straight violence, we are your band.
RMB: What’s one piece of advice you’ve gotten that you think everyone needs to hear or that has meant the most to you?
Kevin Vorhees – Be ready to accept criticism. It can make you a better band. If we did not listen to our friend, we probably would not have that good of an album.
RMB: If you could go back in time, what’s a piece of advice you would give to a younger you?
Kevin Vorhees – Be patient. Everything happens for a reason.
RMB: What’s coming up next for your musical project?
Kevin Vorhees – September 11th is our first show back in over a year. We are playing the shovelhead in Longwood Florida. We really want to be back on the road touring.
RMB: Anything we haven’t thought of that you want to talk about? Now is the time!
Kevin Vorhees – We want to say thank you to everyone who has believed in us and has supported us during our journey. We hope to gain new fans from this release and maybe one day do this for a living.
