5-7-Zero is a metal band based in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. With Gabe Josefowicz on guitar and vocals and Cat Havrilla on bass and vocals, this young band, which began in February of 2020, is making waves in colorful fashion. Through influences such as Nirvana, Halestorm, and Seether, they write mostly originals, but can also cover several different genres due to their eclectic nature. They have been considered NEPA’s “Halestorm Tribute Act” through Pennsylvania, which is a high grade honor for a band as young as they are. They released their EP in August of 2020 titled, “Suicide King” which features a fan favorite, “Phoenix.”
We had a chance to chat with 5-7-Zero as part of our Refrain Interview series. Check it out!
Refrain Music Blog: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. You have a new single out now. Tell us about it? What’s it called?
5-7-Zero: Yes! We do have a new single out now! It came out on Friday, July 2nd. The new single is entitled “Marigolds.”
RMB: What’s the single about?
5-7-Zero: The new single “Marigolds” is about finding yourself in a position where grief is present and the world is trying to force you to move forward faster then you actually can. Forcing you to hide your emotions and never fully heal while moving on with life.
RMB: What’s the story on how it was recorded?
5-7-Zero: This is the first time we have ever done multiple guitar tracks for a song. Usually we just double the same part but this time we went for a bigger feel to the song. The song was recorded at Eight Days a Week studio in Sunbury Pennsylvania with Paul Smith.
It was actually a longer process then we had anticipated, but we wanted perfection. After the song was recorded it was sent to William Baker to do the final mixing and mastering.
RMB: Tell us a little about the band. Who are the members and what do you each play?
5-7-Zero: When 5-7-Zero was formed it was actually in the time of corona. We started in may of last year (2020). The band is formed of current members Gabe Josefowicz (17) and Cat Havrilla (19) set out to make their music dreams a reality. Gabe plays guitar and does the more scream vocals and Cat plays bass and does the more mellow and melodic vocals.
RMB: Have you had any significant line up changes recently?
5-7-Zero: We haven’t had any line up changes recently but we are actively looking for a drummer. It’s tough to find someone around our ages that’s good to play the intricate music we create.
RMB: What’s the one thing you are most proud of in your career so far?
5-7-Zero: Hmm, this is hard, we’re proud of a lot of things but one thing we would say is getting over 12,000 streams on our debut ep.
RMB: What’s one piece of advice you’ve gotten that you think everyone needs to hear or that has meant the most to you?
5-7-Zero: Play every show, every song, every note like it will be the last one you will ever play.
RMB: If you could go back in time, what’s a piece of advice you would give to a younger you?
5-7-Zero: You’ve already come this far, you’re to far in to give up, always keep striving to get better and better.
RMB: What’s coming up next for 5-7-Zero?
5-7-Zero: We are planning to release more music throughout the rest of the year and hopefully get back to playing in the next coming months
RMB: Anything we haven’t thought of that you want to talk about? Now is the time!
5-7-Zero: We absolutely love everyone that streams our music and supports us!! Make sure to give us a follow on Facebook and Instagram. Also be sure to check out our music!!!
