Jonsjooel’s latest single, “Somewhere Else Than Here”, is a masterful blend of jazz-infused experimentation and atmospheric soundscapes, drawing the listener into an otherworldly dimension. The track’s 6/8 time signature provides a rhythmic pulse that feels both fluid and unpredictable, creating a sense of movement that complements the hard-edged piano riff. This driving piano is the backbone of the composition, cutting through with sharp precision while the ghostly vocals float delicately above, creating a haunting contrast.
“I imagine the piano pattern being this other dimension of life where the spiritual world is bubbling around. Somewhere Else Than Here is my thought of how that space could feel like. In these egocentric and materialistic times I think it is vital to keep on searching that world beyond our eyes,” Jonsjooel explains.

The percussive elements, while understated, add an intriguing layer of complexity, grounding the ethereal vocals and giving the piece a sense of urgency. The track’s sound design, with its blend of organic and electronic textures, evokes a cinematic quality, as if it could easily serve as the soundtrack to a journey into the unknown.
Inspired by Robert Lawlor’s book, Voices of the First Day, the track is deeply connected to themes of co-existence with nature and otherworldly realms, reflecting Jonjooel’s thoughtful approach to composition. Somewhere Else Than Here is an ambitious and evocative piece, and a promising preview of his upcoming EP, Voices of A First Day, set for release in November 2024.
