Hailing from Ravenna Ohio, Circadia is an electronic pop-rock duo consisting of Nathan and Alyssa James. The band has just released their newest single, “A Lasting Impression“, a song all about the importance of love. “This song has what I think is a very important message that the world needs to hear,” explains Nathan. “The message is basically, don’t sugar coat the truth that Love is ultimately the most important aspect in life. I don’t just mean true love with a wife or significant other, but loving others unconditionally no matter where they are in life. In order for us as human beings to make a lasting impression in this world, being exudant of Love is paramount!“
We had a chance to interview Circadia as part of our Refrain Interview Series. Check it out below.

Refrain Music Blog: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. You have a new single out now. What’s it called?
Circadia: “Our new single is called A Lasting Impression”
RMB: What is the song about, in terms of lyrics? Any overarching messages or themes?
Circadia:“The song is about not sugar coating the truth… For us as human beings to have a lasting impact on the world and others, we need to live exudant of the truth which ultimately is… That Love conquers everything. Unconditional Love is paramount in life.”
RMB: Is this single part of an album? If so tell us a little bit about that.
Circadia:“This single is off our up and coming second full length album called Built From Heartache due to release early 2023.”
RMB: How does this single differ from your previous work?
Circadia:“This song is quite different from previous songs of our for a few reasons: one it’s heavier and more electric guitar driven, two there are gang vocals in it, and three the song is more hook driven rather than chorus driven.”
RMB: What’s the story on how it was recorded? The Who, When, Where etc. Was it a long process or quick? Any good stories about the recording process?
Circadia:” I have been working with Newkirk Productions for over a decade now. Dan and I have learned the ropes of recording, editing and mastering from scratch together as I was his founding client. Now that we’ve really clicked and understand each other on a grander scale, recording is super fun and effortless so it seems. Though yes, the process of recording a lasting impression was one of the longer ones it was nonetheless enjoyable. The gang vocals were a lot of fun to do, adding like 30 of me at the same time.”
RMB: Tell us a little about the band. Who all is in it and how did you form? How long have you been together?
Circadia:” I founded and created Circadia back in 2018 as a side project to simply dabble in the world of electronica. I then recorded and released Circadia’s debut full length album Seeking Completion in late 2019. I met Alyssa (now the other half of Circadia) just before seeking completion’s release. They both hit it off by having very similar taste and interest / passion for music. Alyssa officially became the second half of the duo in early 2021. Since then they’ve been striving together as both a couple and business partners to make Circadia grow and flourish.”
RMB: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Circadia:“Some of Circadia’s big and most noticable influences are: Owl City, For King & Country, Foo Fighters, and Simple Plan to name a few… Though there are many.”
RMB: What’s the one thing you are most proud of in your career so far?
Circadia:“Circadia’s growth as a band in only 1 years time! Only really beginning to take the band very seriously in early 2021, Circadia has gained over 600,000 total streams collectively on streaming services such as Spotify, SoundCloud and Tidal. We’ve had a total of 13 radio interviews, 4 of which are with national radio stations, and their current single “A Lasting Impression” is featured on over 34 playlists and counting on Spotify and SoundCloud combined.”
RMB: If you had to pitch your music to a potential fan in less than 10 seconds, what would you say?
Circadia:“To pitch Circadia’s music in 10 seconds or less, I’d simply say if you really enjoy Owl City and the foo fighters, you’ll really enjoy our music!”
RMB: What’s one piece of advice you’ve gotten that you think everyone needs to hear or that has meant the most to you?
Circadia:“I had heard from Dave Grohl one time via a YouTube interview that “If you play your song on acoustic guitar, and it doesn’t sound good, it’s not a good song.” This has spoken volumes to me over the years and has only greatly improved my song writing skills!”

RMB: If you could go back in time, what’s a piece of advice you would give to a younger you?
Circadia:“Stick with one band, one name, one overall sound and genre. The main thing i regret to this day is not developing Circadia over 10 years ago instead of trying a bunch of different bands and projects all at once with no real proper way to promote all of them.”
RMB: What’s coming up next for your musical project?
Circadia:“Besides our sophomore album Built From Heartache coming out in early 2023, we have a few more singles coming out this year which will have some real treats in them! Possibly even another music video!”
RMB: Anything we haven’t thought of that you want to talk about? Now is the time!
Circadia:“You can hear Circadia’s music on all music platforms!”
