Renowned musician and producer Mark Rae delivers a captivating start to his highly anticipated multimedia project with the release of “The Place I Call My Home”, the first single from the album New Town Ghosts – Songs From The Novel By Mark Rae (due out April 11th). The track sets the tone for Rae’s unique fusion of storytelling and music, drawing listeners into a richly imaginative world inspired by his forthcoming novel, New Town Ghosts.
Buoyant yet reflective, “The Place I Call My Home” weaves whimsical imagery with infectious melodies, capturing the youthful wonder and mystery central to the novel’s themes. Recorded across iconic UK locations and featuring over 40 world-class musicians, the single’s lush instrumentation (complete with strings, horns, and choir vocals) crafts a cinematic soundscape. Mixed by Erik Miles, the song balances emotional depth with inventive, danceable rhythms, embodying Rae’s signature style of blending genre-defying production with narrative depth.

“This project represents a high-water mark in my creative output. I wanted to explore themes of childhood friendship, our relationship with nature, and the spirit world. Set during the summer of 1976 in a Northumbrian new town, the story reflects the innocence and wonder of growing up during a unique time in history, intertwined with the emotional resonance of the music,” shares Mark Rae.
Rae describes New Town Ghosts as his most personal project to date, exploring childhood friendship, nature, and spirituality against the backdrop of a 1976 Northumbrian summer. With plans for a theatrical live performance in Spring 2025, this project solidifies Mark Rae’s position as a pioneer of multimedia storytelling and musical innovation.
