Don Amirio Impresses With ‘Hooked On’

Rising musician Don Amirio has just dropped his latest single, “Hooked On”. The melancholic track is layered with lo-fi drums and a gritty but chill soundscape that leans into an R&B/hip-hop style exploration of genre. All of this acts as a perfect bed for Amirio’s personal, quiet vocal delivery.

Speaking of the track, he says, “The lyrics were inspired by my current relationship… We were arguing a lot and almost broke up, but wanted to work things out. This song captures the feeling of sometimes thinking things may not be right, yet still feeling “Hooked On” to the other person.”

Having honed a skill for blurring the lines between rapping and singing through soulful and emotive sonics, the track infuses a sample from Coop The Truth x Teddi Jones to delve into the tensions in his current relationship.

The track, taken off his upcoming project, The STONR Tape, intricately weaves a haunting touch to the feeble vocals into the heavy reverb of guitar sounds, the track comes to life with a triple threat of introspective lyricism, flowing sonic arrangements, and soft yet purposeful beats. After picking up the guitar aged nine and quickly falling in love with beatboxing, Don Amirio learned production by himself and refined an artistry hinged on heartfelt self-expression. Finding solace in music from a young age, Don Amirio’s craft spanning themes of depression, loneliness, self-discovery, and a longing for deeper connection evolves to bring in fresh twists with every new release.
