Alice Rowe makes her long awaited return delighting us with fresh new track ‘As It Seems’. Ideal for the month of June, this fruity number offers a taste of Alice’s new colorful realm, characterized by layers of meanings and a polished sound palette. She explains this song to be “where [she] found [her] sound” so we immediately knew it was going to be special!
With an enchanting exchange between honey vocals and a radiant horn motif, listeners witness a compelling musical conversation. At first it showcases a mellow nature, but a careful listen later unveils a deeper and thoughtful message. Alice told us she “wrote this track after attending an art exhibition in London – ‘Alice in Wonderland – Curious & Curiouser’. The concept was about a girl who struggled to survive the confusing world of adults with its many layers and mysteries. It is thought that Alice and several other characters secretly suffer from mental health issues which helped me to come up with the lyric ‘behind closed doors you can’t see, nothing is ever as it seems’.”This beautifully crafted R&B piece is adorned with a captivating lo-fi beat, shimmering guitar patterns and an addictive vocal sound which catapult listeners into a musical wonderland, inviting them to notice its beauty and intricacies. With her revived sound, Alice Rowe opens up and tests a new level of vulnerability to produce intimate and delicate tones. We cannot get enough of ‘As It Seems’, a flavourful concoction of old school hip hop and jazz which pay homage to the likes of Ari Lennox and J Cole. What a sublime comeback from Hastings’ up-and-coming singer and songwriter! We are buzzing for her wider forthcoming project ‘Nothing is Ever As It Seems’ to release later this year.
Keep up with Alice Rowe
