The Refrain Interview: New Vision

New Vision is a band from Hudson Valley, NY. From their bio, the band says that “Their unique, yet familiar sound touches back on the late 90s and early 2000s surge of indie/emo rock. Whether you’re a fan of the genre or just a casual listener looking for something new. Their music has something everyone can connect with.

New Vision has just released its debut album With Love. We had a chance to chat with Nico of New Vision about the album and more, as part of our Refrain Interview series.

Refrain Music Blog: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. You have a new album out now. What’s it called?

Nico: With Love

RMB: How many songs on the album?

Nico: 10 songs

RMB: Is this your first album?

Nico: Yeah this is our first full length! Our first big introduction into the scene.

RMB: What’s the story on how it was recorded?

Nico: We recorded it at The Gradwell House with Nik Bruzzese (bassist in Man Overboard). He emailed us and we got on a call and set everything up, we were so excited! It was an awesome time! The whole thing took about 10/11 days to record. We definitely learned a lot, especially Josh and I (Nico). We learned a lot about how to sing properly and breathe and use it to our advantage.

RMB: Do you have a favorite song on the album? Tell us about it?

Nico: I’d say Crave is our favorite! It’s just so energetic and as soon as we wrote it we felt like we had a hit!

RMB: Are there any overarching themes on the album?

Nico: Ryan and I wrote mainly basing off of situations going on in our lives at the time. I’d say an overarching theme for me (Nico) is dealing with anxiety in everyday love and then the feeling of uncertainty of everything when it comes to pursuing a passion.

RMB: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Nico: I’d say for us it’s definitely bands like Citizen, Title Fight, Turnover, The Story So Far, Basement, etc of different bands within that scene.

RMB: What’s the one thing you are most proud of in your career so far?

Nico: This record and how well-received it’s been so far. Also how amazing our release show was and how many people actually came out and cared about it.

RMB: If you had to pitch your music to a potential fan in less than 10 seconds, what would you say?

Nico: Late 90’s Indie Rock style meets modern Alternative Rock style of today.

RMB: What’s one piece of advice you’ve gotten that you think everyone needs to hear or that has meant the most to you?

Nico: As long as you are able to, keep going, don’t stop something you love and are passionate about because you really never know when it’ll happen. As long as it stays fun and the love is there for it, keep the drive!

RMB: If you could go back in time, what’s a piece of advice you would give to a younger you?

Nico: To live in the moment & be grateful in that moment. Sometimes we take things for granted like a really fun show or a really great time working on new music with your friends without realizing how lucky we are to have had those moments.

RMB: What’s coming up next for your musical project?

Nico: We’re trying to stay busy, so later this month we’re going to the studio to record some new stuff!

RMB: Anything we haven’t thought of that you want to talk about? Now is the time!

Nico: Our debut LP “With Love” is out now, you can find it wherever you listen to music!
