Atlanta alternative rock band Fairshake has released their newest single, the emotionally driven modern rock anthem “High Risk”. We had a chance to sit down with Shayne Goss, vocalist and guitarist for the band, to discuss the release as part of our Refrain Interview Series.

Refrain Music Blog: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. You have a new single out now. Tell us about it?
Shayne Goss: Fairshake’s new single is called, “High Risk.” It captures the shock, panic, and fear of a dead-end to a way of existing and how that impact can feel like stepping into an alternate reality.
This song sets the tone for Fairshake’s upcoming record of dealing with mental health, trauma, learning to accept and embrace change.
RMB: Tell us a little about the band. Who are the members and what do you each play?
Shayne Goss: Shayne Goss – guitar/vocals ,Tucker Harding – lead guitar/vocals , Chase Sammons- bass , Ben Cato (dim) – producer (Space Jockey Sound)/percussion for “High Risk” Single & Record. He is not an official member of the band.
RMB: How long have you been together? When and how did you form?
Shayne Goss: I’ve has been performing as Fairshake with a revolving door of members and multiple hiatus since 2008. The genre has shifted, naturally with the collaboration of members. This being the favorite version of Fairshake has been together since 2017.
In late summer, 2017, I was solo as Fairshake again, sitting on the unreleased Self Titled Record. Tucker had filled in for Fairshake on Drums before as he was in another band in Atlanta Fairshake played with often. Tucker is multitalented, being first off an amazing guitarist and songwriter. When Tuck heard we needed a new guitarist it was a natural fit since he already loved the songs and is a dear friend. Tucker called in his buddy from high school, Chase Sammons, who was relatively new at bass at the time but already shredding. It was too impressive and too perfect of a fit when all of our energies came together. The rest is history, we became family.
RMB: Have you had any significant lineup changes recently?
Shayne Goss: No lineup changes recently, we have taken time out to restructure our lives due to Covid which has been a healing experience and made us stronger as individuals and a team. I do add there is always a bittersweet thing about no longer making music with someone. It is kind of like remembering all the good times you had with an ex but knowing you just don’t work out together and that is okay, you still get to keep the good memories of it.
Fairshake wants to thank every single previous member and contributor over the years as we have evolved. We love you and hope you are in alignment with your life path.

RMB: What’s the one thing you are most proud of in your career so far?
Shayne Goss: We are most proud of never stopping, being authentic to ourselves, and allowing ourselves to grow in whichever way our higher calling takes us. What we learned is the friends and family aspect comes first. It is the love that keeps our relationship together. If you don’t have that deep connection, then it would be the same idea of being another number at some big company desk job.
RMB: If you had to pitch your music to a potential fan in less than 10 seconds, what would you say?
Shayne Goss: Fairshake sounds like, “Catchy/Poppy Vocal Melodies, but undeniably rock n roll.” Fairshake has something to love for folks who love Pop and the Metal crowd too.
RMB: What’s one piece of advice you’ve gotten that you think everyone needs to hear or that has meant the most to you?
Shayne Goss: You can’t know Love without experiencing the opposite. So, this polarity is something we honor in our music. The deeper of hole of Fear/Emotions/Trauma dug is the the capacity of Love & Joy you can receive.

RMB: What’s coming up next for your musical project?
Shayne Goss: We are releasing a record in Spring of 2022. So be expecting more singles and music videos!
RMB: Anything we haven’t thought of that you want to talk about? Now is the time!
Shayne Goss: Fairshake’s music is always about working through life lessons and allowing the blessings to come into your life. We all, as humans, tend to cling to what we want, especially after that ship has sailed. If we can each become empty and clear of trauma/fear based emotions in each moment, this will create space for prime opportunity of peace and happiness in our lives. Basically, we are saying we have all been a hot mess and working on releasing that, and taking on that journey is what we believe life is about. You are the hero of your own story.
