Author: Sasha Lauryn

Lutfia may be new to the music scene, but by the sound of her recent debut EP ‘So Much For Summer’ you wouldn’t have guessed. The 20-year old BIMM student has crafted an EP with a sense of self-assured style that you wouldn’t expect from such a young artist. She’s carving a place for herself amongst the saturated sonic landscape with her unique blend of pop, funk and rock. Seemingly, her well-rounded sound stems from the years of writing she has behind her, having been penning heartfelt songs since the age of fourteen. The heart-on-her-sleeve nature to her writing is at the beating heart of her music and perhaps it is this that makes her debut so impactful.

‘So Much For Summer’ is swimming in stellar songwriting, made all the more enchanting by Lutfia’s vocals. Lutfia boasts a beautiful quality to her voice with an innate ability to swim within deep emotions, but never drown in them. She pulls us into the softer, more intimate side to her artistry in ‘Heart Of Stone and Bones Of Steel’ as she flexes her command over the lower register. Then, effortlessly energises us with her powerful performance presence in ‘City Of Angels’. A common thread throughout ‘So Much For Summer’ is the mesmerising melodies that flow through each track. Lutfia’s ability to sculpt stunning melodic shapes is immense. ‘Just A Stranger’ is an exceptional example. With a hypnotic hook, intriguing intervals and captivating crescendos, ‘Just A Stranger’ is a seriously powerful piano ballad. On the polar opposite side sits ‘Prism’ — a powerhouse of a pop track with a synth-soaked dance beat. The diversity within this debut EP is undeniable and makes ‘So Much For Summer’ a sensationally strong debut. What’s so radiant about these tracks from Lutfia is the simple fact that she is boldly being herself. With an abundance of attitude and lyrical confidence, Lutfia is flaunting the fundamental force of a female vocalist and this is just the beginning.
